Of course if you lived in Europe instead, you probably could have connected your CoCo through SCART to just about any TV that takes analog RGB, but now that is just imagination from my part.Įdit: By the way, three years ago I collected a list of VGA monitors that supposedly should sync to 15.75 kHz, and thus be useful assuming they take analog RGB (IIRC VGA is an analog signal?). Five years ago people would throw those after you, now they can fetch $100+ if they are fully working in good condition. Regarding the going price of 1084 monitors, it seems to be universal. Keep your eyes open, check the Craigslist from time to time as well.įor that matter, feeding an analog 0.7V RGB signal into a monitor that expects a digital TTL level (3-5V IIRC) RGB probably would not destroy anything, just that the signal is too weak to register on the monitor? While it is reasonably easy to create a voltage divider for an adequate solution to go from TTL to analog, I don't know if it is equally easy to construct something that would quantize and amplify the analog signal to TTL level? Magnavox 1CM135 and 8CM515 (the later one of the most popular for the CoCo 3 and my all time favorite)Īnd of course, if you can land one the Tandy CM-8 is the easier way to go - as noted on a previous message, this is the only Tandy made monitor that works with the CoCo 3. I have the following as a list of CoCo 3 compatible monitors (RGB analog 15k horizontal sync): His financials are a bit compromised due to retirement but he noted the adapters will come to be either as kits or assembled.įor what is worth on regards to tried and true CRT monitors, it is a game of proper timing to get a good one on Ebay or a flea market, just have to keep on looking - on regards of the price I don't think I would pay more than US$50.00 for one and it would have to be a unit in pretty good conditions. Roy is still out there, he was active this past April on the CoCo mailing list ( - you can check the archives by author for that month for user name RJRTTY at aol.com). Thanks, in advance, for your thoughts and ideas. Whew!Ĭan anyone offer me some assistance on creating a cable that will connect between my CoCo 3 and one or more of the different varieties of Commodore 1084 monitors? Either from the 10 pin CoCo connector to the back of the Commodore 1084 of your choice, or from the 15 pin D-sumbiniature connector on the adapter cable I bought from Cloud 9. I see that Commodore 1084 monitors are still available on eBay, but they seem to be going for $100++, and around $50 or so for shipping. It has the 10 pin berg style connector on one end and a 15 pin D-subminiature connector on the other end. I have a RGB output cable that I purchased from Cloud 9 when I purchased the CoCo 3. I see that some of them have a 9 pin D-subminiature connector on them - AND some of them also have a switch to go between digital RGB and analog RGB. I also see that Commodore made several different versions of the 1084 monitor, with a dizzying array of different connector schemes on the back of them. I understand that Tandy made the CM-4 and the CM-8 analog RGB monitors - but they seem to be completely unavailable any more. Trying to use a TTL RGB monitoe will likely blow up my precious new computer, and also the monitor, too. So, I started scouting around for an RGB monitor. I can see that NitrOS9 boots up, but I cannot read the screen, really. This is particularly a problem when I type DOS in HDB-DOS, and load NitrOS9 from Drivewire. If I go to WIDTH 80, all of the above is even worse, and I can barely make out what the ASCII characters are on any given line. I can go to WIDTH 40 and still see the screen, although it becomes more shifted to the left, and I lose half of the very first character in the line. It shows the 32 column display fine, although slightly shifted to the left, horizontally. I have an old Panasonic 9 inch color composite video monitor that I am using. I am currently having fun with my new CoCo 3 and Drivewire.
